I supplied the info and did not receive a response back. I was then rebilled for those accounts. I have since requested to have all of my accounts canceled and still have not received a response. I have referred numerous people to gate but not anymore. Too bad.”
2010-01-07 21:25:00 Here is my experience: Day1: Call Gate to setup my hosting account. Paid for one month of hosting and was assured that my account will be setup within two hours. The welcome email would give me the logon info and temporary link to my website. Six hours later no email. During the call they tried to feed me BS about spam filters. Gave them a differnt email address. They gave me my username and PW over the phone which did not work. I was told to call back in couple of hours. Called back to find out that they did not give me my full username. I am finally able to ligin to my control panel. Still no email from them and nobody is able give me my temporary link. After another conversation I am told that my account was misprovisioned, "usually it takes up-to 24 hours to resolve a case, but in this instance it will most likely take couple of hours." 18 hours later still no resolution. After calling Gate again was told that 24 hours did not pass yet and that they still have a few hours to resolve the case. They told me to call back later. Called back 26 hours after incident was opened. "The admins are still working on it" After asking about promissed 24 hour guarnted resolution time was told that cases like this take 48 hours to resolve and that I should repoint my name servers to gate.com. All I needed was a temporary link to start woring on my site, but I pointed to new name servers anyway. I was assured that my account would be setup by next day. Also was told that none of the admins work weekends (so much for a 24 hour shop with 99.99 uptime guarantee) Next morning called them to talk to a supervisor. Before I got to supervisor was assured that it would be setup within 24 hours due to some server problems. Waited another day and canceled an account with them. A was determined to make it work, but at that point.... Thank you gate.com for waisting four days of my time. What a "great" company.Josh says:

Their website claism that downtime is defined is one minute of consecutive trouble, but I frequently find hiccups in the delivery of simple content. Recently, I've had issues with spawning even simple 'hello world' cgi apps in that sometimes they just don't execute. Customer service is very poor. They claim 24 response time via email, but I've yet to find a response within 4 business days. My database files went missing and after 3 days, the issue is still not resolved

2010-01-02 19:20:43 I have been using JustHost for quite sometime now and i constantly have issues with the server I am hosted on being taken offline for maintenance with NO NOTIFICATION to me whatsoever. I have a 24/7 website where users purchase a service every day and sometimes you wake up and the site is down and no one has told you why. You then have to open support tickets and wont get a response for at least an hour if lucky. You can call support and then they finally tell you that your server has been taken offline for service. Thanks.. Now that non of my customers can access the site and my support is being hit with emails. Cheap and fast but just not business savy…Would not use this hoster again and the only thing keeping me here right now is that its a pain to move my site over.
2010-01-02 19:23:24 I’ve been using JustHost for nearly a year now. Their cPanel is absolutely lovely and always kept up-to-date with the latest software. I never have to manually install or upgrade any of the website features that I design with. HOWEVER, I have to say that 90% of the time, my website, even with minimal content, is incredibly laggy or the MySQL server will overload with only 5 user accounts being stored and less than 100 forum posts. On the bright side, their customer service is always efficient and expedient. It’s good for a personal site if it doesn’t need reliability or speed.

But they lie about unlimited bandwidth and space: You cannot stream any media. It violates their Terms Of Service. You also cannot use your web-space to store backups. So, what they are saying is that you have unlimited bandwidth, but if you use it you can be shut down. They also try to sell you a million things like faster server, auto backups and things like that. I opted for the faster server until they told me to delete all my media files or they wouldn’t move me to the new server. I opted out and am going to find a better provider when I can afford it.

You better be ready to take a Xanax or three because you'll be doing it through e-mail. The response I got when I couldn't upload my website on their hosting site for publishing? They told me to go to a third party website to download other software to upload my website because their website isn't working right, with no explanation or apologies for the hassle. But what happens when that doesn't work? Yep, you get to e-mail them right back and wait another hour for a response. This so sucks. I'm dropping them for someone that has a actual number to their IT department and hopefully not one in India. And I'm about to ditch all the cheap companies cause I can only presume they work all the same.

I bought domain name and for a week after they kept calling me asking if I wanted to buy more crap that I didn't need form then then after that I started getting calls from telemarketers at least twice a day every day except weekends and they just won't quit. Luckily for my at the time of writing this I only have a month and a half left with my current cell number. Moving to another state.

2010-01-09 20:21:13 Register.com repeatedly sends me email incorrectly claiming that my domains are about to expire, even though they are enrolled in register.com's own automatic renewal. The email says "some of these domains may not be enrolled in SafeRenew", as if register.com doesn't know that ALL my domains are enrolled and therefore won't expire as long as my credit card is good. Part of the reason I use automatic renewal is so I don't have to worry about my domains expiring, and here the very folks I'm paying so I don't have to worry are deliberately trying to deceive me into worrying so I'll renew early! I'm shopping around for a better registrar, and you might want to as well.
2010-01-09 20:23:03 Last year I received an offer from register.com to safeguard my contact information on WhoIs by masking it from being publicly displayed. The offer said if I paid a certain amount, my contact information would be "kept private for the life of the domain". Of course I signed up, figuring this would mean "for as long as I kept my domain registered with register.com". Imagine my surprise when just a year later I find out that "for the life of the domain" in register.com terms means "until the domain must be renewed". I had just renewed my domain name with them for another 4 years a few days before, but the privacy option is expiring this year and would require another hefty payment to be kept active. I find that wording misleading and will definitely transfer my domain to another registrar when my 4 years are up.

I first signed up with them 5 years ago - and up until this summer, they were adequate. Since their "upgrade" over the summer, I've lost emails (customers trying to do business that is!), and the performance just sucks - watching youtube videos on dial up is faster than this tool they upgraded too. I contacted them about not receiving emails and the performance, and 1 month later they are still trying to figure it out the email piece (they haven't even addressed the performance issues - it doesn't seem to bother them about my comments about dial up being faster). Customer service is terrible, tech support is even worse, they have no idea how to ask questions and troubleshoot, example it took them 2 weeks before they asked for the Ip address of those missing emails. Duh that should have been the first question - its just tech 101. Terrible, i'm making a switch this weekend, no matter what the costs. "

No More Limitations:
They have addressed most of the limitations I have posted here ever since I posted this review 5 years ago. For example in January 2004, they installed AWStats to allow their customers to view the traffic statistics of their websites. Before that, they provide no web stats.
They also provide toll-free support and live-chat support later. You are now able to create password protected directories directly via the control panel. You are also able to setup email autoresponders now. We can see that they are constantly improving their hosting package.
PowWeb has also removed their maximum number of files limit. They used to have this “funny” limitation where each user cannot have more than 50,000 files in an account. It is funny because it looks like they are the only host in the whole industry that imposed this limitation. But now it has been removed.
They have increased their MySQL databases to 75 in February 2007 after I highlighted it in the review. There are lots of free scripts available to us today (such as forum, blog, etc.) and all of them require a MySQL database. Having more databases means you can install more free scripts. It is good that my writing does have an impact on them.

In the first several months of service, I thought they were a remarkable bargain and an outstanding provider - I even recommended them to clients and friends. But in the past year, they have steadfastly refused to implement effective anti-spam filtering. Most of the sites I had hosted on PowWeb have gone to other hosts that do provide good spam filtering. On one account that I moved, I was billed for another year of service despite the fact it had been moved a month before the contract expired. I requested a total refund and got a partial credit after several messages and weeks - they only respond to billing inquiries on Mondays. I continued to request a credit for the balance still charged. After many more weeks, I disputed the charge with my credit card company. Two other sites that are hosted by PowWeb were shut down the evening of Sept. 24, 2003. I own one of them. The other site is not owned by me, and is billed directly to the owner by PowWeb. It seems that PowWeb cut their service because I referred them to PowWeb! I am unable to receive mail and my control panel login no longer works. Both accounts are prepaid to April 31, 2004. And both sites have never engaged in spam; hosted porn, mp3, warez, etc. I have received no notice about suspension of service. PowWeb - which has known of the problem for four days - has not resolved this issue, nor does it appear they want to. It is now apparent that PowWeb's actions are fully intentional - vindictive retribution for a billing dispute decided in my favor by the credit card company. The most incredible aspect of this whole debacle is that those charges were for another domain, no longer hosted by PowWeb! PowWeb just wanted to make a point. It turns out the file responsible for that function had its contents erased. So I upload the original file, it worked and I thought I wouldn't hear from them again. About a month later, I'm told that that file didn't work again. The problem was with a fopen() function. So I look at the php.ini for "allow_url_fopen = on" and it's on. The reason I chose them was because I found out that another site that ran the same dating site script as me was also hosting with them, and so I knew that they would be fully compatible with my chosen software. The tech support been good. The telephone support was friendly and efficent on the one occasion that I opted to use it. The basic shared hosting packages that I initially took out were somewhat restrictive in terms of the number of emails I was able to send to my customers per hour, and because I run a dating site I had to move up to a VPS with fewer limitations. Since then I have had no real problems with emailing my membership, so it was worth the extra cost. I don’t host with anyone else so I can’t give a comparison but I’d say nexx is definitely worth checking out if you run a small-mid sized site.
